Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Drug Arrest

On April 13, 2022 at approximately 1926 hours, Milford Police Department Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Landing Drive, Milford, Kent County, DE 19963 for a suspicious vehicle complaint.  Officers were advised that the reporting person stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of their residence and they did not recognize the vehicle.  Officers were advised that the vehicle was occupied.  Officers responded to the area and located the suspicious vehicle which was identified as a Black Honda Accord with tinted windows.  As officers attempted to make contact with the vehicle, the vehicle began to drive off.  Officers activated their emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the vehicle failed to stop initially.  After a short pursuit through the development, the vehicle stopped in the area of N Landing Drive and Starlight Lane.  During the short pursuit, the driver threw a black book bag out of the driver’s side window, which was recovered by officers.  After the vehicle had stopped, 3 subjects were detained from inside of the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as Talif Cunningham-Young, 18 of Felton, DE.
Officers observed marijuana in plain view inside of the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 449.2 grams of edible marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Officers discovered approximately 108 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside of the black book bag that Cunningham-Young had discarded from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Through investigation, it was determined that Cunningham-Young was the possessor of the marijuana and drug paraphernalia and the other two occupants were not involved in the possession.  Cunningham-Young was charged with:
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Counterfeit Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
  • Window Tint Violation
Cunningham-Young had a presentment through Justice of the Peace Court 7 where he was released on unsecured bail with preliminary hearing scheduled in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date.
